The Mobile and Social Computing Laboratory (http://msclab.org/) at Dalian University of Technology, China conducts interdisciplinary, application-driven academic research in social computing and mobile computing. We are opening two full-time post-doc positions. The successful applicant is expected to work on topics like computational social science, (scholarly/social) data analytics, or mobile social networks. The salary will be around 6,000 RMB/month, plus other Benefits. We will offer excellent working conditions.

Start date: ASAP (Negotiable)

Duration: 2 years (fixed)

 

Qualifications:

1. Applicants shall have PhD in related disciplines.

2. A good command of the English language (in speaking and in writing) is required.

3. Research experience in related areas is required.

The Mobile and Social Computing Laboratory (http://msclab.org/) at Dalian University of Technology, China conducts interdisciplinary, application-driven academic research in mobile and social computing. The Lab now has 30+ members, including 10+ PhD students (from seven countries on this planet!).

 

We are opening 2 PhD student positions in social computing (including e.g. computational social science, data analytics, big scholarly data, social network analysis, etc). All positions will be coupled to full Chinese Government Scholarships. Basic living allowance will be 3,500 RMB/month, plus Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit. The scholarships are exempt from registration fee, tuition, and fee for basic learning materials. Accommodation on campus will be provided for free. The University will offer excellent working conditions.

ISKO UK Next Meeting and AGM - Organizing information: roles, skills and training for the future

What part will knowledge organization play in our ability to find and manage information in the future, whether it's on websites, document management systems, collaboration systems, corporate intranets, or even on shared drives? What sort of roles will be needed to cope with the ever increasing amounts of information that we're dealing with, and how do we prepare ourselves for these roles? Do university courses and other institutions reflect the needs of the market in their syllabus, and what other ways are there to improve our skills?  

This will be a slightly different format than usual, as we are expecting to look at the topic from a number of different angles. Speakers from government, enterprise, recruitment and academia will be reflecting on the marketplace and how we as professionals respond to it, but instead of our usual longer papers, we are planning shorter contributions in order to cover a wider spectrum of thoughts and experience  and will also welcome input about your own situations. Come and join in the discussion at 2pm on March 14th 2016 at The British Dental Association, Wimpole Street, London W1G 8YS. Members are urged to attend the ISKO UK AGM at 1pm, immediately before the main session, and non-mem! ber observers are welcome too.

Using social media at work: How to share knowledge, improve collaboration and create a mutual savoir-faire?

In Columbus, Ohio 2016 the Knowledge Management Standing Committee invites you to experiment with new ways of working and to share your own techniques in an exciting new format for an interactive open session. If you use social networks in your institution or if you have out of the ordinary methods for sharing knowledge for everyday work, this "call for demos" is for you!

Tell us how you use social media to share the best practices of your organization, to involve colleagues in new projects, to connect your library with other projects at your institution, to improve your work processes, and to create team spirit. We want you to present your success stories and share with the public live, on stage, with a computer and a use case in a very practical way.

The selection will be based on the following submission criteria:
- An abstract explaining your method in a few words
- A live demo of your concept in 5 minutes through internet (or video)
On the day of the open session, your presentation will be a 20-minute live demo and a 10-minute live exchange with your audience. We look forward to hearing your ideas!
